Which Topo Camper Is Right For You?
Comparing the Mesa, Badlander, and Rincon Pop-Up Truck Campers

If you're researching a lightweight pop-up truck camper or aluminum camper shell for camping / overlanding, you've probably come across plenty of companies, all offering something a little bit similar and a little bit different when it comes to build methods, amenities, and even where it’s manufactured.
Many of these companies focus on one style (often a wedge camper) for mid and full size trucks. At Topo, our lineup includes three aluminum pop-up campers designed for different truck sizes and travel styles.
How our three models compare:
|
Camper: |
Weight: | Best For: |
| Mesa | ~ 250 - 350 lbs. | Minimal set up, lightweight builds/trucks |
| Badlander | ~ 350 - 450 lbs. | Balanced comfort & storage space |
| Rincon | ~ 450 - 550 lbs. | Maximum space & features |
Each camper is fully fabricated and assembled by us in Ventura, and designed to be durable, lightweight, and capable of handling the kind of backroads and remote campsites truck owners actually seek out. If you’d like to get into the nitty gritty of how exactly our campers are made, click here.
If you're on the fence about which direction to head, we've compiled a short list of the most commonly touted stats we hear on why our customers chose the camper they did.
Mesa
Our lightest weight wedge
For many drivers searching for something like Tacoma pop-up camper, weight is one of the most important factors. The Mesa keeps your setup lightweight, while still giving you the comfort of a sleeping platform, weatherproof shelter, and accessories many other companies don't offer in a wedge camper.
The set up from parking at the campsite to camping at the campsite is literally seconds, and one fewer step than a double pop, making it not only fast but easier on shorter statures.

Badlander
Our flagship most versatile double pop up camper
The Badlander is our most popular model for mid size trucks, since it strikes a balance between being lightweight and offering more interior/living space than the Mesa. With the double pop, it makes getting in and out of bed with a sleeping partner much easier, and allows for you to sit up fully anywhere in bed.
Total height from mattress to ceiling is 35" - 36" (it was originally designed because we couldn't find another camper on the market which allows for sitting up in bed, a crazy concept apparently).
Accessorize it to your hearts content, and you'll still be under 500 lbs. Fans, solar, cross bars, you name it. The Badlander is perfect for both singles and families of little ones in a mid or full size truck, who don't necessarily want to mess with their suspension.

Rincon
Vertical walled double pop up & maximum living space
The Rincon was born back in 2023 when our family was growing and we needed extra space. Rincons flared & vertical walls add significant living space to the interior of your camper - compare a full size Badlander/Mesa width of 52" to a full size Rincon width of 72" and it's glaringly obvious... the Rincon just dominates when it comes to comfort.
The one trade off with its size you might be thinking of is weight. Coming in around 450-550 depending on truck length and how you accessorize it, we probably install an equal split of Rincons on mid and full size trucks, so don't let the size fool you. The Rincon is still a lightweight aluminum camper option.
Our accessory universe for the Rincon is well thought out and growing, with modularity in mind. And with the rear barn door option, accessibility is opened up to far more people and has been extremely popular since launch.
