L Track - A Deep Dive Guide
L Tracks are one of the most useful items you can add to your camper. With so many options for accessories and mounting, L tracks are versatile, modular, and dead simple.
First, what is L track?
Essentially, L track (also called airline track) is a low profile aluminum rail with evenly spaced mounting slots to accept a wide range of fittings. It was originally designed for airline cargo, making it super light, incredibly strong, and built to handle movement and vibration.
On a Topo Topper, L track has become the backbone to much of our accessory ecosystem. Once it's installed, you have the option of adding gas, water, propane, cross bars, molle, awnings, (...you get the gist) without the need for drilling dedicated holes for each of the above. Having the ability to add, remove, or reposition those items means no permanent commitments to your build. Your truck can change with the seasons and whims of your build out plans.
Topo's Own L Track Accessories:
We design and fabricate our own L track mounts in house. These are powder coated and integrate seamlessly with your build. This list is not exhaustive, but includes:
Propane Mounts, Rotopax Mounts, Exterior or Interior Molle, Awning Brackets, Jack Stand Brackets, Roof Rack Bases & Cross Bars, Yakima offset brackets (for landing pads).
Essentially, if you can dream it, we can probably make it L track compatible!
DIY'ing With L Tracks
We see you DIYers. If you have a chop saw and drill, chances are you can fashion your own with angle aluminum. We've seen folks install solar and recovery gear this way. I'm sure there are plenty of other wild ideas folks have accomplished using L tracks.
Mounting Hardware
With the L track installed, you're going to need hardware to attach to it. Most of the time, that means you'll want an L track stud. Essentially, a bolt and nut set up with a winged base to lock into the track. These come in different lengths and even thread diameters.

There are many other options available online by simply using Google and searching for L track hardware:
